People are hurting. With the sad state of the economy, stock market, and job market, urgency may demand some to move into jobs that pay the bills but don’t fuel the passion.
It’s okay to simmer for a while, when you’re forced to meet financial necessities. But don’t become someone who looks back on their career and says, “What was I thinking? I never did what I really wanted to do”.
Meantime, it’s critical to get your ducks in a row and make long term career plans that satisfy your burning needs for creativity, inspiration, and excitement. Determine what will make your worklife happy, research where you’ll find it, and start moving in that direction.
“Life’s too short to hate what you do all day.
Life’s way to short to make mediocre stuff.”
– Seth Godin, Tribes
According to Hajj Flemings in Passion . . . Who are you becoming?
“Your future, your greatness, and your personal satisfaction is tied to your personal passion. It is hard-wired into your DNA and is coded on the inside of you. It is the fire that burns deep within. Most of us ignore the drive and focus instead on what other people have told us we ought to be, or on what we see others do.
Living a life of significance is fueled by passion, which is the reason passionless people exist and passionate people create the future. However, it is difficult to be great at something that you were never created to do.”
We all deserve to have work we enjoy and get paid for it. Everyone benefits when people are happy in their work lives. Everyone suffers when they aren’t.

I love your point about not just making do in your career. If your financial situation allows, it is important to find your next job opportunity that is related to your passion. And even if your current job isn’t perfect, try to either find some aspect of your passion in your current job, or, work to create opportunities there to reach those goals.

Even in this job market, if you’re not working your passion, you should be looking ahead to how you can get there.

The economy is bad and getting a job these days is even harder. So you need to put some real work in getting your resume out there and getting interviews!

I’d like everyone to identify what kind of work will make them happy and at least try to get there. Realistically, it doesn’t happen for everyone, but I think it’s possible for most of us.

Most people have never said passion and work in the same sentence but I believe there is an opportunity to align the two. The state of the economy will force some people to do something they really want to do. Great blog post way to challenge people to think about an enjoyable worklife.
