I Wish Spring Would Hurry Up and Get Here Already

I’ve had enough Winter. This dreary late Winter weather seems to weigh us all down even more this year than others – probably because of the many challenges we face with this crushing economy.

Out and about, I’m seeing and bumping into a lot of grumpy people lately. Many people have many things to be grumpy about, of course.

Hardly anyone smiles when you make eye contact with them. I’m generally a sunny person, but when I plaster a big smile on and it’s met with an angry glare, it cuts through me and sours my disposition.

Maybe Spring will turn us around. Maybe all those earthy smells and chirpy sounds so particular to Spring will give us the boost we need. The very feel of Spring usually works for me.

The other day when I was grocery shopping, I noticed a Burpee seed carousel beckoning from a far away corner, and I was instantly lifted and excited with initial thoughts of what I’ll do with my vegetable garden this year.

Although it’s still about 2 months too early to do any planting, I bought a packet of my favorite, Bush Champion Cucumber, and my mood instantly improved. Just knowing that very shortly I’ll be elbow-deep in rich soil, tenderly attending to my garden, worked wonders.

It’s often the little things that have the greatest impact, isn’t it? Maybe everyone would feel better if they were grateful for simple pleaures.
