As a companion to my post, Executive Job Search and Career Management: Weathering a Layoff, here are more suggestions on dealing with an impending layoff.
Yesterday, Fortune Magazine’s “Ask Annie”, with some help from Susan P. Joyce who runs the top employment portal, job-hunt.org, tackled the question: Leave now – or risk getting laid off?
Susan shares her experiences being laid off from Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) in 1994 and her regrets about not leaving sooner, by her own choice.
“Even when you see it coming way in advance, getting laid off is a terrible kick in the gut. You’re far better off leaving on your own terms.”
She offers in depth advice for those facing a layoff, without any job offers in hand, in her new, free e-book, Job-Hunt’s 15 Minute Guide to Layoff Self-Defense: Six Steps to Protect Yourself and Your Income.
“Once your employer has stated that people will be laid off, your first priority has to be to protect yourself and your future. Start figuring out your next move right away.”
